Notes on your family's 'migration' stories

Hello ELC,

We have been discussing the ideas of Migration/immigration/ emmigration as well as the idea of being a host and being a guest. We have done so in light of the history of this region's First Nations or Aboriginal peoples.

Now, we are exploring our own migration narratives. Please begin to make notes on:

  • 3 generations (You, parents, grandparents of movement/life for your family. (if you lack all the information, use what you are able and willing to use)
  • Then, consider/plan ways you could write/organize the writing of this story .
In class you are being given some ideas/notes on possible methods of organization.

Moving forward, we will begin to create drafts of these stories. We will use this endeavour to :
  • Practice working with shifting and consistent verb tenses
  • Practice sentence variety and syntax
  • Utilize and expand vocabulary
  • Consider our stories/lives in relationship to those of our peers and in relation to the stories of our hosts  the First Nations peoples of this region.
I very much look forward to learning more about your lives and your histories.

Ms. S
